The renowned location, situated in the heart of the Sinai Peninsula at an elevation of 1570 meters, holds deep historical and religious significance. According to tradition, this is the very place where Moses witnessed a miraculous sight – a bush engulfed in flames that did not consume it.

The Monastery is an Orthodox religious site that holds great historical significance. It has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, emphasizing its cultural importance. The origins of the monastery can be traced back to the 6th century, during the reign of Emperor Justinian.

Currently, an enclosure wall is being constructed around the monastery, which was initially named Saint Catherine in the early 11th century. This name was chosen as a tribute to Saint Catherine, who was one of the earliest Christian martyrs in Alexandria.
